Bubble Foam is super easy to make and is a super fun at-home sensory activity for your toddler. It is also something a little different than water play for warm Gold Coast days.
Bubble Foam is so easy to make and if you have a toddler living with you, you probably have the ingredients sitting in your pantry.
How to make bubble foam
Mix 2 parts water to 1 part bubble bath or body wash. I even use Harper’s soap free body wash and it works well. For colour, add a drop or two of food colouring. Then whip it up with a hand mixer on medium to high for one minute.
Most of the time I don’t measure anything and just add the soap and food colouring and simply add more water to alter the consistency or volume when mixing.
The kids like mixing the colours when they play so I will often make rainbow bubble foam by mixing one colour at a time or using several mixing bowls.
Play Time
Once you have mixed your bubble foam it’s playtime. My toddler’s are lucky to have a water table and we use that but you can use what you have around the house like buckets, large plastic tubs or small swimming pools, clamshells or a tarp.
I recommend placing your bubble foam container on your grass rather than a cement or tile area to stop any colour staining from food colouring.
I also recommend stripping your toddler down to nappies/underpants and singlets or putting them in old clothing for this activity. I also make sure I have towels on hand so if need be I can hose the kids down and dry them off before they come back into the house.
We are experiencing beautifully warm spring days on the Gold Coast at the moment so this is a great at-home spring activity for your toddler.
Mix It Up
I have found providing a few colours of bubble foam is enough to keep my toddlers occupied for at least 30 minutes but you could also add trucks, cars, balls, dinosaurs, cooking utensils (basically anything you can think of) to add to the sensory experience and fun level for your toddler.
