Runaway Bay Tavern is another great Australian Venue Co. family friendly pub that you should visit, especially in January 2021!

Kids Play Area

Runaway Bay Tavern does not have a playground but they do have a kid’s play room with lots of natural light and a great sign over the door “Welcome to the Jungle”. On our visit this kid’s area had a TV, a set-up for some gaming consoles but they were not on, kid size stools and four wooden game style tools that were very appealing to my two toddlers.

The Food

Out of all the Australian Venue Co. pubs we have visited, the Runaway Bay Tavern menu is the largest and most diverse. There were so many options it was hard to choose. Kids Meals are $6 and there are 8 meals to pick from so you are sure to find something to suit your toddler. You can add an ice cream for $2 or a juice or soft drink for $3. There are six $14 seniors meals are also available for lunch and dinner 7 days a week. They also had a good list of wine available to order using the mobile ordering app.

We placed a mobile order which was super easy. Simply scan the QR code with your phone’s camera to access the website to access the menu and place your bistro food and drink order whilst you sit at your table. Your order is then delivered to your table when ready.

We ended up trying the Chilli Seafood Linguini, Lasagne and the kids beef burger and fish and chips. Instead of kids desserts we decided to get a deconstructed apple pie to share. We also ordered a bacon and cheese bread to share and the whole table enjoyed that!

Atmosphere and Staff

In my opinion the Runaway Bay Tavern has a really light, relaxed, open and somewhat beachy look and feel. The kitchen and bar can be viewed from the inside dining area which is a little different and gives you something to look at whilst waiting for your meal. The Runaway Bay Tavern staff were friendly and helpful.

Toddler Review

With its large diverse menu Runaway Bay Tavern has hit the number one spot with my husband and Nanna and Poppy who have visited a few venues with us for a family dinner out. With $14 senior meals on the menu all week, Nanna and Poppy might become regulars!

I really like the menu and they have some great wine choices. All the meals looked great and tasted great too. The decor and layout is really nice too.

But what did the two bosses think? Well they loved the play area. They had it all to themselves so they ran around, move furniture and toys about and just felt like masters of their domain. The kid’s meals were enjoyed and the two toddlers had a nice dinner out with the family.

The only thing that would make Runaway Bay Tavern better for our family would be a kids playground. We will definitely be back for another family meal. Next time, we might head out to Runaway Bay a bit earlier take a walk by the water before our family dinner at Runaway Bay Tavern.
