Pirate Park News!!!
After 10 years of popular use, the Pirate Park playground at Palm Beach Parklands is in need of an upgrade. The City of Gold Coast will deliver a new and improved play space destination.
The new design will maintain the popular pirate ship theme and provide a variety of different play opportunities and experiences for a range of ages.
The City is progressing with the playground design. We anticipate construction will begin late 2021, with a 4 to 5 month construction time.
See artist impressions of the proposed playground design in the photo gallery below.
Toddler Review
Pirate Park Treasure Island Playground and the Palm Beach Parklands is an amazing place to visit. Being such a great area to visit makes it very popular and the car parking within the parklands just isn’t large enough to accommodate all the visitors.
I wouldn’t let this stop you visiting but would recommend being prepared to walk and cart your children and gear a couple of blocks to get to the parklands (and across busy roads). I recommend you take a beach wagon or pram to help transport everything to the parklands.
A picnic blanket or if you can easily manage some camp chairs are a great idea to ensure you have a seat when visiting.
We took a packed picnic lunch for our visit to Pirate Park, there are also BBQs available or there is an onsite cafe within the Parklands a short walk from the Playground. Dune Cafe is open daily for breakfast and lunch from 6.30am.
We did visit on a Saturday which I am sure is one of the busiest days to visit with lots of families enjoying a beautiful day and several birthday parties in full swing in the picnic shelters surrounding the playground. I am sure it is quieter during the week but still a highly visited and popular spot.
The parklands and playground overlook Currumbin Creek or Currumbin Lagoon. We didn’t enjoy the water on this trip to Pirate Park but we are looking for another visit where we will hit the beach to play in the sand and have a swim. It is a great spot for toddlers and small children as it is a sheltered waterway with calm water. I am sure when we get back to Palm Beach Parklands we will also have to stop by Pirate Park for another play!
