Here is what you can expect from a visit to Norfolk Tavern in Ormeau.
Stuff for the Kids
Big outdoor playground. Need I say more!
You can see the playground from the Bistro and there is sometimes a camera running to a TV so you can watch your kids play from inside the bistro. If you would rather have a closer view of your kids on the playground, book an outdoor table right near the playground.
Norfolk also have an indoor play or games room but this seems to still be closed since the COVID outbreak. It is still advertised on their website so hopefully it will be back in action soon.
The Food
Menu features your standard pub fare. Good menu range which means you should be able to find something on the menu you like. My niece is a celiac and Norfolk Tavern has always had some gluten free options for her.
Kids Meals are $10 each and served with a soft drink or juice. There are 5 options to choose from.
Specials
Norfolk Tavern is a part of the ALH Group Ltd. and since COVID-19 all pubs and taverns under this banner have stopped specials and promotions like Kids Eat Free, lunch specials and daily meal specials. Norfolk Tavern is not an exception unfortunately. They still offer discounted Senior Meals which is great.
Events
Events at Norfolk Tavern have also been down-scaled since the COVID outbreak. Keep an eye on their What’s On webpage for upcoming events.
We recently held Fletcher’s 4th Birthday at Norfolk Tavern.
Atmosphere and Staff
Norfolk Tavern has a big open bistro, lots of indoor and outdoor dining space and of course the big outdoor playground which makes it great for families.
Toddler Review
It has been a while since we have been back to Norfolk Tavern. This is mainly due to COVID restrictions i.e. when the playground was closed and honestly because there are no meal specials.
It is a really good kid friendly local tavern option. If they brought back some of their previous specials like cheaper lunches and Kids Eat Free we would be there a lot more often. It really comes down to the bottom line where you can save some money or make it go further by going to one or two other local taverns which do offer these promotions. Fingers crossed the AHL Group bring back these offers to all their taverns soon.
1.5 years ago we held Fletcher’s 2nd birthday at Norfolk Tavern. I had just had Harper so was looking for a really easy low-stress venue for me. We booked an outdoor area for our large group and the staff were wonderful and so accommodating. They even put decorations up that we provided in the area and blew up some helium balloons for us. All our guest came along and paid for their own meals and drinks but the Tavern gave us a group discount on the meals. The kids loved the outdoor playground and it was really good laidback option for a 2nd birthday were you are mainly accommodating adults rather than lots of kids.
If it doesn’t seem right as a kids party venue option, keep it in mind for your bigger group catch ups with family and friends.
If you are looking for a good tavern meal and a venue with the bonus of a good outdoor playground for the kid’s definitely give Norfolk a go.
What to pack (suggestions)
- Snacks (back-up if there are any meal delays)
- Packet of wipes for spills and toddler clean-up
- Bibs (if out for dinner and your toddlers are bathed and ready for bed)
